1/24 Weekend Adventures ~ Maze, Onion Field, Beach, Flying Children!

Random Silly Things we did this weekend! And beautiful places that we discovered! :)

1/24 Weekend Adventures ~ Forbidden Cave!

This cave has been closed down for 10 years, but being the rebels we are we snuck in! It was so beautiful! It reminded me of the movie Fern Gully! When you first walked into the entrance of the cave it was dark and grey, and the further you walked the more light you saw. At the end of the cave was a cliff and then other passage way deeper into another cave. It was so beautiful!

1/24 Weekend Adventures ~ Lava Tube Cave!

This weekend we decided to go check out some of the local caves. The first cave we went to was the lava tube cave!

5 day Market!

I thought these girls were cute so I asked to take their picture. The girl on the left is putting on eyeliner, the other girl is holding a mirror for her to see :)
Fish @ the Market! Soooo much fish!! Like half a football field of fish!

Tangerines! Yummy
Various gross side dishes!

Life... Teaching.. Settling in!

I know, I know, I have been seriously lacking on my posts! I am settling in nicely. And enjoying being here more and more each day. It really is beautiful here. The weather here is odd, the temperature stays between 30 and 55 degrees, but one day there will be no snow and then the next there is a foot of snow! My apartment is great! Most people here have a one room, which is just what it sounds like. One room where the kitchen and living and bedroom area are all the same. I got lucky! My kitchen is separate! I have been putting it to good use! Tonight I made chicken curry for dinner and it was delish!

As far as teaching goes so far so good I guess. It can be a little confusing because I got no training, I basically got handed the books the first day and then told to prepare for class. I am still figuring out how to teach the material. Some days are easier than others. They print me out a schedule of "what" to teach but this only includes what book we are using for that class and often times that is even wrong! I usually have to ask the kids what page we left off on. They help a lot, even telling me when and what words are on the spelling tests. For the most part the kids are good, but sometimes they are bad. They do not listen and talk over me in Korean. The younger kids do not know what I am saying to them in English at all. I feel like they skate by in class by memorizing the material at home. And they hate when I go off of the book and make up questions of my own about the reading material. Hehe :) I love it. They get so mad! Hit their foreheads and anxiously look for the answer in the book. I keep telling them it's not in the book that they have to think and find the answer. Basically I am forcing them to comprehend in a diff way. It's working slowly.

I have made a couple of friends here. I am just trying to be open to learning new things! I have been considering taking Hapkido. Which is a martial art. Lessons are pretty cheap! like $100 for 5 days a week and a whole month of learning. Pretty sweet! But we will see!
