Spring (March/April)

Spring time in Jeju, was so beautiful. Although it was chiller here than I, as a Florida native, would have liked. The cherry blossoms trees were the first sign of warm weather coming. These trees cover Jeju with their beautiful pink flowers. The island was also covered with "Rape Flowers" known to us as "Canola Blossoms." I think somehow this meaning was lost in translation. Well we even had a "Rape Flower Festival." Take a look!

Fire Festival Feb 28th!

The Fire Festival is apart of the New Years celebrations. On this day people come together to set a small mountain on fire. The belief is that if you light the mountain on fire you are cleansing for the new year to come. Paving the way for the future so to speak. People write their wishes, hopes and dreams for the new year and then they set them on fire with the mountain. All in all it was a really fun day!

Mokpo

We decided to leave the island and head to the main land for the New Years weekend. In Korea the New Year begins with the start of the Lunar calender which begins with the first full moon of the year. This year it happened to be Feb 15th. As such we got a 3 day weekend! Kyndra's friend Jordan from Miami lives in Mokpo so we went to visit him. To get there we had to take a 5 and a half hour ferry to reach him. The ferry ride was very interesting. You do not pass through security and they do not check your luggage. You simple board the ship and they section you off, heard you really, into these different rooms. Inside each room there is place to take off your shoes and then you must sit on the floor with a bunch of random people. After the ship takes off you are free to walk around but there was not too much going on so I basicly just slept the entire time. Lucky for me I can fall asleep anywhere. Once in Mokpo we went to a couple of Jordans hang outs, and ate Italian food all weekend. We climbed to the top of one of the mountains there which was quite a hike. My legs got so sore! All in all it was a good trip and nice to see other things, Mokpo looks very different than Jeju. Enjoy the pictures!!

Chagwido!!

This weekend we went to Chagwido. It is an inhabited island off of the west coast of Jeju. During the winter months men ferry there to fish off of the rocks. Literally, I feel like I would have fallen off the rocks and into the water if I had to stand on such a small space to fish. Well that is just me being clumsy I guess. Anyways, it was absolutely beautiful. We paid the ferry to drop us off and we climbed all the way to the top of the island. It was so serene being the only people there on top of the island! I hope you enjoy the pictures!
